Dog House Training

 Crate Training Dogs has obviously been thoroughly covered in past posts.  You know exactly what to do and how to do it.  

But

Do you know WHY you do what you do?  Today I wanted to give you 2 good reasons why you never want to give your puppy bedding in their crates.

1. The most obvious reason not to use bedding is that your dog could chew it up and ingest it.  The materials used in the bedding could cause your puppies to get sick or even for their intestines to become impacted.
2. Puppies tend to want to pee on soft, obsorbant materials.  When crate training your dog this could lead to more accidents and a prolonged training period.

So you can see that while some people tend to worry about how comfortable their dog is in the crate that bedding in the crate is still not the best Idea. 

Most People complain about having to travel with puppies.  A potty trained dog is so hard to deal with on the road.  Well not for this lady!

Wow.  Peanut go potty already!  But seriously, this is either the grossest thing I have ever seen or the smartest.  I can’t decide which one yet though.

Well, As I was going from place to place I say a little tip on how to handle this issue.

Keep your dog on leash at all times when outside for walks or potty
breaks, even if you are not near a formal fireworks display, even if you
are in your own backyard or neighborhood where she is reliable off the
leash.

Call me crazy but I never would have remembered that one. 

We sometimes get so caught up in the extreme issues that we sometimes over look the little things that we should be doing to keep our pets safe and under control.

I looking around the internet for some info about the up coming July 4 celebration that can always present an issue with Puppy owners.  You know how some puppies are extremely affraid of loud noises like thunder, or in this case fireworks.

I аm trying tο crate train mу dog- һе іѕ 4 yrs οƖԁ аחԁ һаѕ slept wіtһ mе еνеrу night. Starting friday I һаνе bееח putting һіm іח һіѕ crate аt night аחԁ walking һіm іח tһе mornings- I’m doing tһіѕ bесаυѕе һе wіƖƖ υѕе mу carpet аѕ a potty аƖƖ night wһіƖе Im sleeping.

Mу Problem іѕ… һе barks ALL night. Last night һе ѕtаrtеԁ аt 10:30- 12am аחԁ again аt 3:30 tο 5am. I live іח аח apt аחԁ mу roommate іѕ gone tһіѕ week аחԁ thats wһу I аm doing іt now. I need һіm tο ѕtοр barking аחԁ ɡеt used tο іt bу sunday wһеח ѕһе returns. Wһаt саח I ԁο tο һеƖр һіm?
I һаνе a bark collar аחԁ һаνе used іt fοr yrs… I want һіm tο learn tο ɡο іחtο tһе crate without tһе collar аחԁ without barking. Tһе collar isn’t teaching һіm anything bυt tο חοt bark wһеח іtѕ οח.

My Comment was this:

It sounds like your dog might not be comfortable with the crate yet. Sometimes dogs can take about a week to get used to the crate. Since your dog is a little older I would assume that was the issue. Giving your puppy small treats in the crate may help to comfort him about the crate. Long story short, you want your dog to associate the crate with pleasurable experiences so try to ensure that the dog enjoys what goes on before, during and after being in the crate.

I am posting this to let you guys know that if you are having an issue with your crate training then you should go back to the basics.

People all over the nation are starting to warm up to the puppy housebreaking pads.  The popularity is growning rapidly and the method behind the madness is starting to become clear.

Some people think that they are only useful for people who live in highrise buildings.  But the truth of the matter is we could all use them to aid us in our journey to Dog House Training Success. 

An alternate for people who do not have the patience for picking up soiled papers can use a litter box or litter tray. 

Pads are neater than liter trays and trays are not ideal because of their cost and ultimately not as easy to clean up but it is more of a personal choice.

But the real treasure of using puppy training pads is that it helps to eliminate the practice of urine marking territory. 

If your animal urinates on the floor the scent will remain for months to come. The next time he needs to go he will return to the same spot making the problem worse.

It is a natural instinct to return to the same place. When the dog eliminates on the training pad the pad is removed and discarded and the scent is disposed of as well. This will make your job of training much easier.

Not to bad huh?

While online today I say an inspiring News article.  In north Jersey a woman has volunteered to raise Labradors and Golden Retrievers to help disabled people in need. 

She said volunteering “for something significant” was her motivation for doing what she does.

“In order to become a puppy raiser applicants have to apply via the CCI website and interview with the organizers” she said.

I, for one, have always believed in giving something back.  It can be extremely rewarding and is also a great way to build a relationship with your community.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a puppy raiser, contact your local CCI to setup an interview.

Beagles are known for gaining weight quickly without a proper diet.  I have seen quite a few in my day.  They get pretty hefty.

I am posting today because I just saw this blog post about how to train obese beagles.

Something that I found out is that some of the things that we eat that are healthy for us are toxic to beagles.

Pretty scary, I know

but my point is not to scare you but to show you the importance of this information.

Sometimes people complain about shy dogs or their dog being affraid of everyday things.  While its a common problem for people there are actually ways to cure that shyness.  I found a site that talks about this in depth that I wanted to share with everyone.
